Réunion has been a Colony of France since the 17th century. Réunion has the status of a French region namely, the Department of La Réunion, which is similar to other parts in Metropolitan France, so the Regional Council of Réunion is the Regional Assembly of Réunion, while the Departmental Council of Réunion is the governmental authority of Réunion.
